Electricians perform a variety of different tasks, and many of our members specialize in one or several of these types of work.

(3) ENROLL in training / Go to work!
When you are ready to begin your training, you have two options:
(1) Go to school! Enroll in a tech school (View list of schools), or
(2) Go to work for an Electrical Contractor & Enroll in Our Apprenticeship Program

What Happens Next?


(1) REGISTER / On-the-job training!
After you are hired by an electrical contractor, the first thing you should do is register yourself as a Registered Unlicensed Electrician  Learn more. You must complete 8000 hours of on-the-job training as a registered unlicensed electrician (2000 hours/yr maximum) and meet all other requirements set by the State before you are eligible to sit for the Journeyworker Exam.

(2) PASS your exam -- we can help!
Once you complete 8000 hours of on-the-job training as a registered unlicensed electrician (2000 hours/yr maximum) and meet all other requirements set by the State, you will be eligible to sit for the Journeyworker Exam.*

*Electrical apprentices who are graduates of a technical school may be able to apply for up to 2000 hours of credit towards the 8000 hours of experience.
